Being asked by his tutor, Mr. Joshua Aggrey to write a story to illustrate the saying, “silence is golden”, Ibrahim Karim managed to migrate into the belly of the expression to understand the exact information and to have just a gist to write an awesome and a wonderful short story.
Enjoy this wonderful piece as he unfolds a “camera open on a scene with suspense and supernatural expression”.
High, high above mountains, hills, rivers and oceans, there we met, a giant town not known by even the rays of the sun. Found by earth and seen by birth, lived a town called, “Meka” literally meaning, “I will say”.
The town was made up of people with okro mouths. But a mighty wizard said with a brave heated heart, “silence is golden”. Other wizards, witches, magicians and wise men have been to and fro of the universe trying to remove the bandage on that akward sore, this they tried for centuries, but were not successful in their quests, as they found no key to unlock the doors to find answers to the puzzle.
An unrespected, poor young woman who knew the true meaning and the true definition of silence, lived on a wooden air-conditioned house on a dirty and chocked gutter, passed on to her from her ancestors, so to her, it was a great inheritance and a treasure. Upon all these, she was well built up with a concrete wall of tolerance, loyalty and respect which she wrapped around her waist.
One day, she experienced an ugly violent fight between two men where one man saved his life by killing his opponent. In reality, he did that to defend himself, captioned, self defense in law. The woman being the only person and a witness to this unforgivable sin, managed to continue resting his fingers in her lips for decades.
The woman was called to give an account and a testimony of what she saw with her raw eyes. Four strong men were brought before her to identify the criminal. The woman instantly identified the culprit but continued to rest her fingers on her lips without vomitting any word. The woman saved the man from being hanged by not admitting the fact that the man is the victim or the culprit. The culprit being a wealthy man, in fact, a man who had the fragrance of riches. After that incidence, the man promised the woman a tree full of riches and caused a renovation in the the life of the woman. The man made the life of the woman a paradise. And the name of this woman is, Vida Akosomo.
